Knives and forks are much later than chopsticks. According to Professor Yao Xueling's research, the original origin of knives and forks was related to the living habits of ancient European nomads, who immediately carried knives with them, often cooked the meat and cut it off to eat. Later, after going to settle down, Europe was mainly livestock, bread and other non-staple food. Staple food is beef and mutton, cut meat with a knife and send it to the import. After settling in cities, knives and forks enter the family kitchen without having to take them with them. It is not difficult to see that today's knife and chopsticks as the main Western tableware identity is very different, it has a variety of functions, can be used to kill, dissect, cut beef and mutton, to cook edible, and also as tableware.
This is the history of the use of knives and forks in the West. In the East, the use of knives and forks is much longer. Archaeological findings confirm that more than 4000 years ago, our ancestors began to use fork. Some bone forks found in the site of the Qijia culture in the northwest are three toothed.
This fork is very similar to the shape of the Western fork that we are using now, and the size is not too bad. It is also worth noting that when the fork was unearthed, it was with the spoon and bone knife, indicating that the fork, spoon and knife were three matching pieces. It's also interesting, just like the compatibility of Western dishes.
This fork is still in use after the Shang and Zhou dynasties. Some of the ruins and tombs of the Shang Dynasty were also unearthed, especially in a Warring States tomb where there were many forks, more than 50 pieces, which were unearthed in Luoyang, and placed with bronze ware.
From the Shang Dynasty, the fork became two teeth. It was not the same as the first three toothed fork.
After the Warring States Period, Chinese forks were used: bronze forks from the Eastern Han Dynasty unearthed in Jiuquan, Gansu, iron forks from the Eastern Jin Dynasty unearthed in Guangdong, forks from the Yuan Dynasty unearthed in Zhangxian, Gansu, and knives unearthed together with knives. At the same time, knives and forks with the same compatibility were unearthed in Jiaxiang, Shandong, and bamboo sheaths and forks were
Of course, after the Warring States period, the knife and fork were unearthed, indicating that the use of knives and forks is far less popular than chopsticks.
In addition to the dining knife, 7,000 years ago in Zhejiang Hemudu site found many exquisite bone knives. Archaeological discoveries, from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Warring States, have been popular bronze spoon-shaped, pointed leaf spoon-shaped and long handle tongue-shaped knife. The narrow handle tongue shaped knife has been used for more than 2000 years from the spring and Autumn period to the song and Yuan Dynasties, and its materials are bronze, silver and gold.
